Nigerian Scientist Honoured By Japan’s Economy, Trade And Industry Minister

A Nigerian scientist was recently awarded the Japan Minister Of Economy, Trade and Industry 2018 Award for contributions to the industry in the area of standardization.

John Ologbosere is the Chairman, Committee of Testing Laboratories (CTL) an organisation responsble for achieving reproducibility of test results and to promote a close collaboration between testing laboratories.

The work of the CTL is carried out through the IECEE (International Electro-technical Commission System for Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electro-technical Equipment and Components).

IECEE is a multilateral certification system based on IEC International Standards. Its Members use the principle of mutual recognition (reciprocal acceptance) of test results to obtain certification or approval at national levels around the world.

The IECEE Schemes address the safety, quality, efficiency and overall performance of components, devices and equipment for homes, offices, workshops, health facilities among others. In all, IECEE covers 23 categories of electrical and electronic equipment and testing services.

The IECEE Schemes, based on IEC International Standards, are truly global in concept and in practice. They help reduce trade barriers caused by different certification criteria in different countries and help industry access new markets. They eliminate the delays and costs of multiple testing, thus allowing companies to market their products faster while reducing overall manufacturing costs.

In his acceptance speech, the Edo State, Nigeria indigene and University of Benin Electrical Engineering graduate said “My sincere gratitude goes to Japan IECEE Member Body, TUV Rheinland Group and the IECEE CTL community for the nomination and support. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
