In this role, Kate who was elected MP for Edmonton in the last electionswill act as the minister’s contact with MPs. She will share the role with Steve Rotheram MP.
Kate worked with Jeremy Corbyn on his leadership campaign and was one of the 35 MPs who nominated Corbyn to get his name onto the ballot. She then worked closely with Corbyn on the Working With Women Policy document.
Jeremy Corbyn, a long serving backbencher and fellow North London MP, was seen as the outsider in the leadership race, however he won with an overwhelming 59.5% of the votes. There have been more people join the Labour Party in the last month than there are Liberal Democrats.
Speaking on the subject, Kate says:
“Jeremy asked me personally if I would like this new role and I was delighted to accept it. He is great to work with and we share similar political visions.
I am still first and foremost a constituency MP, and whilst I’m excited to have this new position, my work in Edmonton is my priority.”
