Last night saw the long anticipated London Premiere of the NollywoodUK comedy “Basira In London” by Phillippa Abrahams at the Grenwich Odeon Cinema, Charlton, South East London.
With a crowd only seen on opening weekends of big Hollywood blockbuster movies, the attendance at the premiere saw a record breaking occupancy of 6 theatre halls at the cinema with crowds exceeding 1,500. The Red Carpet saw a parade of several London-Naija celebrities, Community Leaders and Influencers and to the delight of the guests, the star of the movie, Eniola Badmus joined the other cast members at the premiere.
The movie’s storyline was a good one that had the crowd in howls of laughter throughout. But it looked like the entire movie was almost single handedly carried by the lead character played by Eniola Badmus and the camera work and editing weren’t as good as can be. Also, if NollywoodUk is going to use foreign actors in their movies, better to get those that can actually act and not look like they had been dragged off the street for a tenner. However, Theodora Ibekwe, Tolulope Yesufu and Phillippa who is also the producer did look good in the film and the pool scene was very well acted out.
But it was a nice entertaining movie and a nice entertaining evening.
