Ambassador Oguntade Encourages Nigerians To Be Steadfast In Serving God

This admonition was shared by Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Retd Justice Adesola Oguntade CFR, CON, with the members of the Goodnews Haven, RCCG UK parish at the church’s Annual Multicultural Day celebrations last Sunday.

The High Commissioner who attended the colourful event accompanied by his beautiful wife, Modupe, also told the members and their numerous invited guests that the call of God, is higher than the call of man which he exemplified by honouring the call of the church before any other official assignment of the day. His Excellency who also spoke to the congregation in 3 different Nigerian languages urged Nigerians to always remember home as the best place, pointing out that Nigerians in Diaspora do not go back “Home” as often as they should.

The Goodnews Haven Multicultural Day is an occasion by the church to celebrate the diversity of nations and cultures in Christianity. The  Pastor of the church based in Thamsmead, south east London, Godday Okosun, who expressed his privileged feelings of having so many dignitaries and important personalities at the event, said in his brief opening address, that the purpose of the event is using different cultures to glorify God.

The event featured presentations showcasing the Yoruba, Deltan, Igbo and Bini cultures of Nigeria. There were also presentations representing the Sierra Leone and Brit cultures.

Also present at the event was both the present and past Mayors of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Cllr Mick Hayes and Cllr Gbenga Babatola as well as the former Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, Cllr Sade Bright a RCCG Pastor.

Cllr Mick Hayes complimented the church members on their wonderfully colourful attires. He expressed his regular pleasure as Mayor of Greenwich to go out to celebrate the rich diversity existing in the borough of culture and of different faith groups. He added how amazed he often feels at the works of faith groups in not only promoting cultural diversity, but also of promoting community cohesion.

He thanked all the members of Goodnews Haven on behalf of the Royal Borough of Greenwich for their wonderful works in this area.

There were also drama presentations to highlight the need to appreciate and embrace other cultures as parts of the body of Christ, as well a a presentation by the Churches youths to showcase the different youth culture.
