How Hot Does It Have To Be Before You Open A Public Pool? Medway Council Says It’s Not Hot Enough Despite Heatwave

A KENT lido did not open this week despite Britain sizzling in a heatwave – because the temperature is one degree too low.

Council killjoys refused to open the outdoor pool in Gillingham because it wasn’t deemed hot enough.

Families slammed Medway Council for keeping the Strand pool closed on Friday as Britain continues to bask in glorious sunshine

The outdoor pool, which is only open at weekends until July 23, is sometimes open during the week – so long as temperatures reach 24 degrees.

However, council bosses say the pool will not be opened as temperatures only reached 23⁰C.

Bob Dimond, the council’s head of sport leisure, tourism and heritage, said a decision was made to keep the pool closed today for routine cleaning as it had been very busy over the weekend.

The move has infuriated members of the pool’s friends group, FOSP (Friends of Strand Pool), who were hoping to make the most of the facilities as the country basks in glorious sunshine.

Sorry folks. @MedwaySport aren’t opening the pool today despite the weather and the agreement when it’s over 24 degrees that they would. We are disappointed. Please message the council with your comments. FOSP are trying to find out more info as to why.

The group tweeted: “Sorry folks. @MedwaySport aren’t opening the pool today despite the weather and the agreement when it’s over 24⁰C that they would.

“We are disappointed. Please message the council with your comments. FOSP are trying to find out more info as to why.”

But the council refused to back down and so the pool has remained shut today.

Bristol University Student Found Hanged In Hotel Room

A 20 year old female student has been found hanged in a hotel room.

Omojola Ogundipe, was in the second year of an economics undergraduate degree at Bristol University.

The student who was was described as a ‘bubbly’ student was found after missing her check-out at the Cirtus Hotel in Cardiff.

She had booked the room three weeks earlier.

During the court hearing (July 5), her dad Kurle Ogundipe said in a statement: “I last saw Omojola on March 11 when she returned home for the weekend. She appeared her usual bubbly self.”

Mr Ogundipe said his daughter returned to Bristol on the same day and he later received a WhatsApp message from her to say she had reached her student flat in the city.

Police informed him of his daughter’s death three days later. He said the family were not aware of any ill health and did not think she suffered from depression or mental health problems.

But close pal Hannah Agbeyegbe told an inquest in Pontypridd that Omojola had “disclosed she was depressed and having suicidal thoughts”.

Bristol University has seen a series of deaths over the past two years

BRISTOL UNIVERSITY:
Coroner Christopher Woolley said there was “no evidence she met anyone or anyone entered the room”.

Verdict: suicide.

Bristol University has seen a series of deaths over the past two years.

Omojola is the 11th suspected suicide from same university in two years.

***A day after posting this story, I was made aware of the fact that Omojola was a distant cousin of mine.
