Police Install Metal Detector At Croydon McDonalds To Cut Knife Crime

Police placed a metal-detecting ‘knife arch’ at a Croydon branch of McDonald’s on Wednesday – the site of a recent fatal stabbing –  as part of continuing efforts to reduce knife crime in the area.

The metal detector was installed at the entrance to the restaurant in North End from 4pm to 6pm. While use of the device was optional, all customers except children were invited to pass through it.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police told East London Lines: “[Searches] are an extremely important power when properly used. That’s why we have invested much time and money to train our officers in how to use [them] fairly and effectively. Our job as police is to protect people, prevent crime and bring offenders to justice.”

Great support from everyone out & about in  Town centre as we ran our knife arch operation tonight. Thank you!
As police officers, safeguarding young people in Croydon is our priority & our aim with this was to highlight to young people the danger of carrying knives

Police officers and fast-food workers handed out leaflets on knife crime prevention throughout McDonald’s ‘rush hour’ as students left school and people finished work. They also answered questions from customers about how the security measure made Croydon safer.

The North End branch of McDonald’s was the site of knife crime in October when Aren Mali, 17, was fatally stabbed outside after an argument spilled out of the eatery. Two teenagers have since been charged with his murder.

@grahamm118 said: “What a waste of resources  as it was for one afternoon only. And how many knife carriers are so stupid to knowingly walk thru the arch with 6 police standing nearby. Even the thickest #Croydon #chav can probably work that one out.”

Waste of time and money. There’s another bloody entrance to the side of the building anyway.

Totally agree. What a waste of resources as it was for one afternoon only. And how many knife carriers are so stupid to knowingly walk thru the arch with 6 police standing nearby. Even the thickest   can probably work that one out.🍔🍟

A Met Police spokesperson said: “This has had good feedback in other boroughs and at this stage it is just a trial. Wednesday’s results will be reviewed and dependant on feedback we may look to plan another. It will not be a daily operation.”

Knife crime in Croydon reached a four-year high in March this year.

Yewande Oyediran Sentenced To 7 Years In Jail For Stabbing Her Husband To Death

A woman who stabbed her husband to death has been jailed for seven years.

Yewande Oyediran standing trial for allegedly killing her husband after a fight between them at their Ibadan home, was sentenced for manslaughter at the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, on Monday.

Justice Munta Abimbola of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Road, Ibadan, delivering judgement on the case, said the manslaughter submission was admitted because it was a marital squabble and not premeditated.

The judgement came for 29-year-old Yewande Oyediran (nee Fatoki), a lawyer with the Oyo State Ministry of Justice who was alleged of unlawfully causing the death of her 38 years old husband, Lowo Oyediran, her 38 years old husband, after counsels in the matter adopted their final written addresses.

Justice Abimbola had at the last hearing in October reserved judgment while adding that hearing notices will be served on all interested parties to inform them of the reserved date at the appropriate time while he commended the media for being objective in their report on the matter and for not engaging in sensationalism while the matter lasted.

Five People Including Two Brothers Killed In Crash As Car Hits Tree In Leeds

Five people including a 15 year old boy and two brothers were killed when a stolen car crashed into a tree in Leeds have been named.

The family of Ellis and Elliott Thornton, aged 12 and 15, have confirmed they were killed in the crash in the Meanwood area of the city shortly before 10pm on Saturday.

The pair’s sister Ebony paid tribute on Facebook, saying she was “full of pain” and “lost for words”, adding: “I will never ever forget you ever, I love you so much.”

Police described being confronted by a scene of “complete carnage” when they reached the location of the collision involving a Renault Clio.

Darnell Harte, who is thought to be 15, a 24-year-old man and a 28-year-old man also died in the tragedy on Stonegate Road.

Two 15-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in custody.

Sky’s Sally Lockwood said some of Ellis and Elliott’s visibly shocked friends visited the scene on Sunday.

She added that one resident said there was “simply nothing left” of the car following the crash.

A police spokesman said that while only one vehicle had been involved, it was not yet clear whether the victims and suspects had all been in the car.

“Whether they were all in the car or whether some of [the victims] were pedestrians we can’t say at this point in time,” he said.

“We’ve got the road closed, an investigation in place and we’re trying to find out what has occurred.”

The families of those who died have been informed, the force said.

Stonegate Road is closed while the major collision enquiry team investigates the cause of the crash.

The car has been removed from the scene and a large scar can be seen on the tree, which is around 150m behind a police cordon.

People living in the streets around the scene of the collision said they heard a loud bang followed by sirens.

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Griffiths said: “This is clearly a tragic incident in which five young people have lost their lives. We are currently investigating the exact circumstances of what happened.

“I would like to take this opportunity to ask anyone who saw what happened or has information about it to call us on 101 quoting log 1859 of Saturday 26 November.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have confirmed their engagement.

In a statement released from Kensington Palace on Monday, Harry and Meghan confirmed the news.

“His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.”

The statement also revealed that the couple have been engaged for several weeks now.

“Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents.

“The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.”

But despite growing up on different sides of the Atlantic, the couple  are actually related through a very distant relation – Ralph Bowes who was born in 1480 in Streatlam, County Durham, where he served as the High Sheriff.

He was both Prince Harry’s and Meghan’s great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather.

The ancestry goes back along the Queen Mother’s lineage on Prince Harry’s side. Meanwhile Meghan’s father, Emmy-winning cinematographer Thomas Markle, can trace his line all the way back to an Englishman called Ralph Bowes.

My dear lovely Christian friend… this:

“And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, & have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net”.
Luke 5:5

Before now, you’ve been doing things your own way, trusting in your own strength, intellect and wisdom – but things haven’t quite exactly worked out the way you would have wanted them to….

Sometimes you’ve hustled, toiled, worked hard and even made countless sacrifices

But just when you are at the point of a breakthrough, something happens…. everything falls apart… and you lose it all

Could this be because you have been sailing without Christ in the boat with you…?

Or even though you call yourself a child of God, but you fail to do things God’s way….

My dear friend, it’s time to change your way – and start to do things a different way…

It’s time to trust in The Lord
And you won’t ever be put to shame!
