BRISTOL MAN SUSPECTED OF CHOPPING OFF NEIGHBOUR’S PENIS FACES MURDER TRIAL

A man faces trial for murder after his neighbour was found dead with his penis cut off and placed next to his body

The body of Kamil Ahmed, who was in his late 40s, was found at supported flats in Bristol.

His penis was found next to his body, magistrates heard.

Jeffrey Barry, a resident at the flats, was arrested in connection with the death and appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court charged with murder in July last year.

The 56-year-old will be be tried for murder next month.

Tabitha Macfarlane, defending, said Barry’s mental health was being assessed before the trial, which is expected to last up to two weeks, gets under way.

The trial, to be presided over by Mrs Justice May, is to be prosecuted by Adam Vaitilingam QC with the defence conducted by David Jeremy QC, assisted by Miss Macfarlane.

A jury will hear testimonies from witnesses as well as toxicology evidence.

Barry was not present in court for yesterday’s hearing.

The Milestones Trust premises in Knowle is divided into flats which are used to house people with mental health conditions.

Bristol Safeguarding Adults Board confirmed it was considering the need to launch a review into the incident.
