A teenager was stabbed to death during the night on the Old Kent Road.
Police were called to a “disturbance” on the busy road in south east London at around 2am on Tuesday.
The found a 19-year-old man suffering from stab injuries and he was pronounced dead by paramedics less than an hour later.
Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command have launched a murder investigation following the incident at the junction with Ilderton Road.
Police believe he had been involved in an altercation with a large group of people outside the Afrikiko bar.
Five people were arrested on suspicion of murder near the scene of the crime. They were two 23-year-old men, a 21-year-old man and two 25-year-old women.
The group were taken to a south London police station and remained in custody on Tuesday.
Officers believe they know the identity of the victim but await confirmation that his next-of-kin have been informed.
A picture from the scene showed police cars and paramedics blocking off the road, with a small crowd gathered at the end of the street.
Ilderton Road, which leads to Millwall FC’s stadium, was closed in both directions while police combed the scene.
