DRIVER ISSUED PARKING TICKET WHILE FILLING UP AT ILFORD PETROL STATION

A driver is baffled after he got a parking ticket while filling up his car at a petrol station.

After filling up his tank he went to the cash machine on the forecourt to take out money to pay.

Seeing that the cash machine was out of order he used the ATM of the shop next door before going back to he garage to settle his transaction.

Thinking nothing of the incident, he was shocked to be sent a parking ticket in the post.

“I was only away for two or three minutes,” the Ilford café manager told the Recorder.

“I would understand if I had parked there all day but I was getting money out next door after their cash machine was not working.”

Mr Ozpembe appealed against the parking ticket and attached a copy of his fuel receipt to the letter.

He claims that Shell said customers are warned that if they leave the site parking tickets could be issued.

“I want to warn other residents about what is going on,” he added.

“It is so unfair on the consumer and lots of people could find themselves in the same situation as me.”

He has vowed never to use that petrol station again.

The Recorder contacted Shell for a comment and it confirmed that the site was not operated by the company but by Motor Fuel Group (MFG).

A spokeswoman from MFG said: “We operate over 370 filling stations across the UK and some of our locations are situated in built-up areas whereby parking requirements warrant monitoring.

“MFG as a responsible business has developed a partnership with a number of parking management companies and we believe their procedures are compliant with the industry code of conduct and in this case regretfully we do not acknowledge this claim.”
